©abcteach    Bean Project

In Jack and the Beanstalk, Jack threw some seeds and grew a giant beanstalk.  Although that is just a fairy tale, part of it is true.  Beans do grow from seeds.  Plant your own beanstalk by following the directions below.

Beanstalk Project

You will need:
1. Styrofoam cups or small clay pots
2. dirt, potting soil, etc.
3. 3-4 Bean seeds
4. water
5. Journal

Directions:

  1. Fill the cup/pot with soil about half way.  Plant the seeds.  Cover with soil until the pots are about three-quarters full.
  2. Water and place  each plant in a different area, some with more light, and some with less light.
  3. In your journal describe the steps you just did and draw a picture. Include the date.
  4. Every other day observe your beanstalks and draw a picture.
Some days may have no change.  That is OK.  Record it anyway.
  5. When your beans begin to grow, measure them and record your results in your journal.
